MOTHER’S DAY CELEBRATION (Ladies Lunch Out)

Mother’s Day is a day set aside to celebrate women/mothers all over the world and in that regard, the Canada Ghana Chamber of Commerce held a Lunch event to celebrate its women. The event was officially opened by the Executive Secretary of the Chamber, Mrs. Edwina Atta-Sonno and in her welcome address, she asked the women to use the opportunity to have fun and learn from each other. Mr. Alexander Nortey, President of the Chamber, in his opening remarks shared his beautiful childhood experience while growing up with his mother. Dr. Annabel Bawah, Specialist Obstetrician Gynecologist, led the health talk on Perimenopause. Dr. Bawah explained peri-menopause as a time where a woman’s body makes a natural transition to menopause and this may come along with some symptoms such as irregular periods, mood changes, decreased fertility, changes in sexual functions and many others. She encouraged the ladies to seek medical attention if they experience these symptoms. Seeking medical attention, she said will help manage perimenopause properly. Mrs. Evelyn Glover, Head of Government Relations (Asante-Chirano Gold Mines) and Mrs. Judith Bani, CEO (Bev-Real Tea Brewers) moderated the second part of the event by sharing with the ladies the importance of work life balance. Touching on personal life, both women explained the importance of having a “Me time” where they invest in themselves; For instance, spending time with their families or socializing with friends. On their professional life, the women shared their experiences regarding how they managed to pursue their careers. They also encouraged all women to take time to upgrade in whatever profession they are in. The Executive Secretary closing the event expressed her gratitude to the 23 women present. She also encouraged them to forge close ties and support each other.
