Independence Day Aerobics
The Canada Ghana Chamber of Commerce joined in the celebration of Ghana’s 66th Independence Day with an Aerobics and Networking event on the theme “Healthy You, Healthy Business”. Instructors from Body Fitness Centre located in Dansoman took members through an hour’s drill of warm-up, aerobics and Cool-down stretches to keep them relaxed and revitalized. There was a health talk on the topic on Diabetes and living a healthy lifestyle by Dr. Nana Akua Saarah Opoku Akyeampong, a physician Specialist,. Speaking to participants, Dr. Opoku Akyeampong explained that with or without diabetes healthy eating is a cornerstone of healthy living. But if you are diabetic, you need to know how food affects your blood sugar levels. She stressed that eating a well-balanced diet while paying attention to the types of carbohydrates you take is key to managing diabetes. She also encouraged members with diabetes to check their blood sugar levels regularly, exercise, and always stay hydrated. She cautioned that members with diabetes should minimize their alcohol intake and stay away from sugar and fizzy drinks. Finally, Dr. Opoku Akyeampong explained that insulin and other diabetic medications are designed to lower blood sugar levels when dieting and exercising alone are not able to manage it. She urged all members with diabetes to take their medications timely and regularly.
