We are delighted to bring you the latest news from the Canadian High Commission in Ghana, where the 156th Canada Day celebration was marked with great enthusiasm on Wednesday, July 5th. This day not only commemorates Canada’s independence but also celebrates the successful diplomatic ties between Ghana and Canada, which have thrived for 66 years. The festivities took place at the residence of the High Commissioner and brought together an array of distinguished guests, including the Canadian community in Ghana, members of the Diplomatic Corps, Ministers of State, sponsors, platinum and gold members of the Canada Ghana Chamber of Commerce. Her Excellency Martine Moreau, Canadian High Commissioner addressed the gathering and highlighted the shared values and commitments of both Canada and Ghana in advancing the rights of women and girls. She emphasized the significance of gender equality and women’s economic empowerment in promoting social progress and sustainable development while harnessing the full potential of women. Canada takes immense pride in its long-standing relationship with Ghana, which has been built on mutual respect, genuine friendship, and multifaceted partnerships. The roots of these partnerships can be traced back to the early 1960s when Canada established its first bilateral development program in Ghana shortly after the country gained independence. Over the years, Canada has provided substantial development assistance amounting to over $2.5 billion, solidifying Ghana’s position as one of Canada’s important international partners.
The Minister of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Hon. Lariba Zuweira Abudu, was the Special Guest for the Celebration. She reaffirmed the strong bond between the two nations, based on shared values and a commitment to growth and prosperity. The Minister acknowledged the pivotal role played by women in national development and stressed the importance of fostering an enabling environment for women to thrive economically, socially, and politically. During the event, both countries renewed their commitment to a future of shared prosperity, cooperation, and friendship, underlining the continued importance of their strong diplomatic ties. The celebration was made possible thanks to the generous support of the members of the Canada Ghana Chamber of Commerce, demonstrating their dedication to strengthening the relationship between the two nations. As we reflect on the joyous occasion of Canada Day in Ghana, let us celebrate the enduring friendship between these two nations and look forward to a future filled with mutual growth and cooperation.
