Ringing the Bell for Climate Change: GSE Leads the Charge

The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) on Tuesday November 19th hosted the Ring the Bell on Climate Change 2024 event at its head office in Accra. This significant gathering aimed to raise awareness about the urgent need for action against climate change while encouraging innovative solutions to mitigate its effects. The event brought together key stakeholders such as the International Finance Corporation (IFC), UN Global Compact Ghana, LMI Holdings and the Canada Ghana Chamber of Commerce represented by Mrs. Edwina Atta-Sonno, the Executive Secretary, who joined to lend the Chamber’s support for the fight against climate change. The event sought to raise funds to support companies and institutions committed to sustainable practices. Notable among the initiatives highlighted was LMI Holdings’ groundbreaking 16.82 MWp capacity solar power project, Africa’s largest single rooftop solar installation and the world’s second-largest, located in the Tema Free Zone enclave. This project exemplifies bold steps toward achieving net-zero emissions and reducing environmental pollution.

The GSE also celebrated the efforts of the La Amos Cluster of Schools, which have creatively transformed waste products into reusable items for homes, schools, and offices through recycling. During the event, the GSE urged listed companies to integrate Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting into their annual reports. This call to action emphasizes the need for transparency and accountability, which will help companies attract support and funding for sustainable ventures. The Canada Ghana Chamber of Commerce commends the GSE for this initiative and remains committed to supporting businesses and institutions driving innovative solutions for a sustainable future.
